Japan Launches TV Shows for Cell Phones April 3rd , 2006
Japan's
90 million cell phone users used to play games on their
cell phones, write emails, take pictures with their digital
cameras, read news, download mp3 files and surf the WAP
internet. Now, they are watching television!
Cell phones that are equipped with special
receivers can now get special television broadcasts in
major urban areas in Japan. What's more, these broadcasts
are free! However there seems to be a problem. The phones
with special receivers are very low in supply and store
shelves are empty.
Despite of the small screen sizes, consumers
love the idea of watching television on their cell phones.
Akihide Kuwamoto, a consumer who owns tv enabled phone
says, "It's convenient for watching TV whenever you
have a spare moment. I like watching it while I'm eating
out because you don't need to push any buttons or anything."
Is Japan the first country to offer
this service? No, countries such as Britain, South Korea,
USA and some European nations already offer these services.
