European
GSM services operator Orange in conjunction with Oberthur
Card and M-Systems have today announced the release of
the first ever 512MB SIM card available for many cell
phones.
Simone Cavallo, GM of M-Systems quotes, "With more than 1.5 billion SIM cards expected to
be sold next year, there is a massive opportunity in the
market for a secure MNO-provisioned SIM card with high-density
memory. We are pleased that our MegaSIM platform, incorporating
M-Systems' TrueFFS(R) flash file management, will provide
a robust mechanism for generating new services, content,
applications and, of course, revenue streams, making mobile
services smarter."
What are some of the advanced features
that this 512mb SIM card will provide?
- Capability to store upto 8000 times
as many phone contacts (usually today's cell phones come
with a maximum contacts limit of 500).
- Furthermore, this new 512mb card can
store not only contacts but also 3 full length movies,
80 java games or 125 music songs.
