LG CU500 Review - Introduction and Digital Camera/Basic Features

Introduction LG is going after the slim cellphone market that has been dominated by Motorola's Razr with its version of LG CU500. This global 3G clamshell is being provided by Cingular. This will be LG's first HSDPA (a higher speed version of UMTS, which allows 1.8Mbps downloads). The LG CU500 weighs in at 105g (3.7oz) and measuring 19mm (.75") in thickness. The phone will use microSD memory card which can store photos, videos and music. For the music lovers, you'll be happy to know that it'll support MP3, WMA, ACC and ACC+ formats. This CU500 will support stereo Bluetooth technology so you can enjoy your music wirelessly. It is very interesting that the phone is quad-band, that means it supports four bands. The bands are GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900. The LG CU500 will be provided by Cingular with 2 year contract at $99.99, after $50 rebate. |
Digital Camera and Other Basic Features The LG CU500 comes with a rotating 1.3 MegaPixels camera. One of the main advantages of this camera is that you can also record videos. The resolution sizes available are 1280 by 960 (which is also the default camera setting), 640 by 480, 320 by 240, 160 by 120 pixels. Comparing to LG CG300 the only visible difference is the resolution size of the pictures. Photos will be saved as JPG files. If you want to have super fine quality for the pictures, like 1280 by 960 pixels, you could save only up to 60 photos. If you are not that meticulous, and you choose a lower resolution, the normal quality, at 160 by 120 pixels you could take and save up to 2600 photos! Videos will be saved in the 3GP extension. You can choose between qualities of the video: normal or super fine. Using normal quality, which records videos at 15 FPS at 176 by 144 pixels, you can save up to 14 minutes of video. On the downside, using super fine quality, described by 320 by 240 pixels, also at 15 FPS, you can save only 5 minutes of video. If you like image editing, no problem, LG CU500 comes with an Image Editor that lets you crop, resize, rotate and apply color effects on your pictures! In addition, you can customize the shutter tones, brightness, white balance, color effects and quality every time you take a picture. This camera can zoom up to 4X for pictures, which is a very nice zoom, or up to 2X for videos.
