LG F9200 Review - Introduction, Screen, Digital Camera and Basic Features

Rather than producting ultra-slim flip cell phones that make it very hard to type and use the navigation keypad, LG has decided to try something new in its latest cell phone, the LG F9200. Weighing at 134grams and measuring 110 x 50 x 25 mm in height, the LG F9200 is a high-tech user phone that features a slide in-out Qwerty Keyboard making it a very easy-to-use phone. LG F9200 is also a successor to the LG F9100 phone, with many more improvements.

Some of the integrated features include a 0.3 megapixels VGA Flash Camera, speakerphone, downloadable games through J2ME, 64 chord MP3 ringtones and PC Synchronization capabilities.

On the business side of things, the LG F9200 includes email functionality for AOL, Yahoo and Hotmail that collaborate together with Cingular's own Mobile Email Service. Chat is also available via AIM, Yahoo Messenger and ICQ.

Screen

Sporting a 65k color screen supporting resolution size of 128 by 160 pixels, the LG F9200 is built on STN (Super Twisted Nematic) technology. This technology is old, and LG could have done better. The more sophisticated cell phones in today's market are built on TFT (Thin Film Transistor) color screens. TFT color screens provide more beautiful and vibrant displays. Here is a comparison between the two color screens:

- TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screens provide more vibrant and beautiful displays because they refresh at faster rates.
- Since TFT provides lots of cool colors, that also means it eats up battery life very fast.
- On the other hand, STN technology eats up less battery and thus provides lesser colours.

Digital Camera

The LG F9200 sports an integrated VGA digital camera with 0.3 megapixels. Compared to other cell phones, a 0.3 megapixel camera is of lower quality. The available resolution sizes include:

- 640 x 480 pixels (50KB)
- 320 x 240 pixels (16KB)
- 160 x 120 pixels (3KB)
- 128 x 160 pixels

The F9200 includes a good number of filters and effects that you can apply to your photos. Some of them include:

- White Balance (Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, or Fluorescent)
- Brightness (-4 to+4)
- Image Effects (Mono, Colors or Sepia)
- Self Timer (3 or 10 seconds)
- Shutter Sound
- Multi-Shots (1, 3, 6 or 9)

With the 0.3 megapixel camera, the LG F9200 is not meant to be one of those highly sophisticated digital camera phones. If you take photos and print them out, the quality may not be as good as those cameras with 2+ megapixel cameras. However, you can take best shots of yourself (via the Multi-Shots feature) and send them to loved ones via the MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) feature of the phone.
