Introduction

Samsung MM A940 is a perfect example of a stylish flip clamshell handset that boasts a wide variety of sophisticated features for the needs of all types of users. First of all, the a940 supports EV-DO (Evolution Data Optimized) technology that allows users to view tons of streaming videos at very rapid data transfer rates. Furthermore, the phone has an integrated digital camera at 2.0 megapixels with support for Bluetooth as well.

Other interesting features include a business card scanner that allows you to scan your business card and do many things with it. Examples can be sending the card to friends/family or even potential clients. An MP3 player is also included with the phone. For convenient playback of MP3 songs, Samsung has included a stereo headset jack together with the phone.

Digital Camera and Other Basic Features

samsung mm a940 cameraThe integrated digital camera has 2.0 megapixels capability that means quality print photos for the user. The camera is activated by pressing the "Camera" key on the right end of the phone. If you turn the key sideways, the LCD display will turn into a viewfinder, acting much like a camcorder.

What's neat about this digital camera is that if you turn it sideways (much like a camcoder), it allows you to take quality photos from the toughest of angles e.g over the heads of large crowds. See the picture on the left to see how this works.

The zooming features of the camera are also very sophisticated. They include a 2x optical zoom and auto focus. 2x optical zoom allows you to get nearer to the photo target without losing any resolution. Other cell phones will actually not let you zoom in 2x but just crop the photos. Not with the a940! The resolution will not be cropped whether you zoom in or out, thanks to the 2x zoom feature. The 2x optical zoom feature can be activated by pressing the Up or Down key on the navigational keypad.

The a940 is more like Adobe Photoshop junior. How you ask? It supplies a ton of filters and effects that you can use to spice up your photos, and just take high picture resolution photos. Some of them include:

- Brightness (-4 to +4)

- Pictures Mode (Auto, Portrait, Scenic, Sports, Vivid, Macro, etc)

- Color Tones (Auto, Sketch, Emboss, Negative, Sepia, and Monochrome)

- Flash (Auto, Off, On Always)

- Self-Timer (Off, 2 secs, 5 secs, and 10 secs)

- Quality (Economy, Normal, and Fine)

Furthermore, the video recorder has the following features, filters and effects:

- 30 second clips can be recorded in 15 second frames
- AMR Audio
- MPEG-4 support
- H.263 Video

Note: The resolution support of the video recorder is not very high, since this is a camera phone, not a video phone!

The available resolution sizes of photos include:

- 1600 by 1200 pixels
- 1280 by 960 pixels
- 1024 by 768 pixels
- 800 by 600 pixels
- 640 by 480 pixels

What happens after you are done taking photos? Well you have lots of options! Integrated with the phone is PictBridge software that helps users transfer photos to a printer without hassle! You can thus print those pictures via your printer thanks to PictBridge software.
