The Samsung a940 comes with SMS (short messaging service), EMS (enhanced messaging service) and MMS (multimedia messaging service). With the MMS feature, you can share multimedia content with your friends and family by emailing them content such as ringtones, screensavers, wallpapers, 3gp videos and more. You can also attach your prerecorded voice into birthday and valentine card greeetings, etc and send them to loved ones.

The T9 predictive text input makes typing out messages much faster and easier. This is done by it predicting the words that you are typing, and if it is correct, you can just press Enter and the word will be typed up for you. Very handy feature i must say!

You don't want to type? No worries! The samsung a940 includes built in speech-to-text technology made possible by VoiceSignal. With this, you clearly pronounce words and the software will turn them into ready made words (you have to pause between each word for the software to correctly detect what you are saying). This allows you to talk handfree and hassle free!

Screen

The screen size of the a940 is 176 by 220 pixels with a 262k color screen. It can create a superb picture display thanks to the built in TFT (Thin Film Transistor) technology which has higher refresh rates. With higher refresh rates, the screen remains vibrant and vivid causing a beautiful picture display. Coupled with this includes the 65k color screen that makes viewing time, date, signal and battery levels very easy on the eye, no matter how dark it is!

With the 65k color screen, the LCD display also shows you the music you are currently playing from the playlists and ability to change and browse through playlists while the MP3 player is on.

Audio

The audio side of the phone is also very sophisticated. With 64 chord ringtone capability, you can listen to tons of ringtones smooth and slow, without any interruptions or hassles. More ringtones can also be downloaded from Sprint Music Store.

The MP3 player contains convenient buttons making navigation and playback of music very easy. The short cut keys include Play/Pause/Stop, Rewind/Forward and more. You can listen to your songs via a headset jack (plugged on the left of the phone). If you want to listen to your songs on the open-air, you can activate the loud speakers on the front of the phone. Who needs a radio anymore!?

Apart from using this website (left sidebar) to download ringtones and many other audio, users of this phone can purchase commercial music from EMI Music, Warner Music Group, Universal Music Group and others. Each song costs $2.5 and comes in two formats, one that can be played on your phone and the other, downloaded to your PC. You can also back up the song if you don't want to risk losing it (it cost $2.5!).
