Samsung SGH-ZX10

Messages

The Samsung SGH-ZX10 comes with SMS (short messaging service), EMS (enhanced messaging service) and MMS (multimedia messaging service). Here is the difference between MMS and EMS:

- EMS allows you to format your text messages to make them look more professional and organized. Things such as font size, alignment, styles, single/double spaced and paragraphs make up EMS.

- MMS on the other hand allows you to attach videos, sounds and photos (.gif and .jpg formats) to a text message. So if you have to send a greeting with sound and video to a loved one, MMS will help you do it! With the 1.3 megapixels digital camera included, you can take your photos and attach them to emails and share them with loved ones all with the click of a few buttons!

Typing these SMS, EMS or MMS Messages is also made very easy thanks to predictive text input (T9). With this feature, the software predicts the words you are just about to type, and gives you a list of suggestions in drop down menu format. You just select the right word and the job is done!

When it comes to chat, the SGH-ZX10 allows you to chat with loved ones, or business contacts in AIM, ICQ, or Yahoo Messengers. Who needs a PC anymore!?

Screen

The screen size of the SGH-ZX10 is 176 by 220 pixels with a color range of 262k colors. Notice the 262k colors because most other cell phones come with a 65k color display. What does this mean? This means the screen refreshes at faster rates and creates a beautiful display screen. This coupled with TFT (Thin Film Transistor) that produces higher refresh rates means that the screen remains vibrant and vivid causing an awesome picture display.

The TFT screen also allows you to view Cingular's videos and television on your phone with high-quality resolution. The opposite of TFT displays is STN (Super Twisted Nematic). Here's a comparison between the two:

- TFT (Thin Film Transistor) screens provide more vibrant and beautiful displays because they refresh at faster rates.
- Since TFT provides lots of cool colors, that also means it eats up battery life very fast.
- On the other hand, STN (Super Twisted Nematic) technology eats up less battery and thus provides lesser colours.

Note: The phone does not have an external color screen that displays important phone data such as Signal levels, battery strength, Date/Time, network status and incoming/missed calls. The available screen is monochrome with a 96 by 96 pixels display.

Audio

Users of the SGH-ZX10 can set ringtones as incoming tones when a call arrives. The available file formats include AAC, MP3 or 64 Chord Polyphonic files. With Bluetooth capabilities and PC Synchronization software, users can transfer thousands of ringtones from their PCs into the phone with the click of a few buttons!

If the 50mb allocated internal memory is too low for you, you can add more storage space via TransFlash/microSD cards (512 megabytes). An MP3 player is also built in, and supported file formats include MP3, AAC, and RealOne.
