Introduction

Sony Ericsson has decided to put a little twist to their new line of cell phones. This can be seen in the Sony Ericsson W600i which has been designed to be called as a "Walkman Phone." This is because it contains a very sophisticated and mobile digital music player. You can thus download all of your songs from your PC (via the built in Sony CONNECT software) and transfer them directly to the phone. The file formats that are supported include AAC and MP3.

The front of the phone shows a 5 way keypad and shortcut keys to the Walkman, Web and Gaming. The phone can accomodate upto 262k colors on a 176 x 220 pixel display screen. This means the photos that you take with your digital camera will be of high quality and resolution. You can also change faceplates of the Sony Ericsson W600i, to suit your ever changing needs.

Other notable features included are Bluetooth capabilities, FM radio, 1.3mp digital camera and more.

Digital Camera and Other Basic Features

The integrated digital camera has 1.3megapixels capabilities that allow you to take quality print photos at high resolutions. The available resolution sizes are:

- 1280 by 1024 pixels
- 640 by 480 pixels
- 160 by 120 pixels

With a built in memory of 256mb, you can store thousands of personal pictures and videos and view them as photos or thumbnail galleries. Want to edit your images? No problem! The w600i includes built in Adobe Photoshop Starter Edition software that allows you to fine tune and spice up your photos. The format types for images are .gif and .jpg while for videos are QCIF, H.263 and AMR. You can record upto 15 seconds of video clips on 15 frames.

What happens after you are done spicing up and fine tuning your photos? Well you can share them with loved ones by sending them as attachments in email or MMS messages (by using the Quickshare built in software). The zooming features of the camera are also very sophisticated. They include a 4x digital zoom and auto focus. 4x optical zoom allows you to get closer to your photo spots without losing any or much resolution. This helps in taking quality photos.

The w600i also includes tons of filters and effects (in addition to Adobe Photoshop) that you can use to fine tune and touch up your photos/videos. They include:

- Filters and Effects (Negative, Black/White, Sepia and Solarize)

- Shoot Modes include Normal, Panorama (many shots in one pic), Burst Shoot (take 4 pictures at once and combine them).

- Photo Quality (Fine, Normal)

- Photo Light (allows you to take photos even if light conditions are dim)

- Night Mode

- White Balance ( Auto, Fluorescent, Cloudy or Fine Daylight).

The softwares included with the phone are:

- QuickShare
- PhotoDJ (allows you to spice up and fine tune your photos)
- VideoDJ (allows you to spice up and personalize your 15 second videos).

If you check out the picture above, you will notice the camera operates horizontally (while most other cell phones come with vertical digital cameras). This thus makes the w600i look more like a Sony Digital Camera rather than a cell phone. But its all good, you can enjoy Sony's talent of cell phones and digital cameras both in one!
