Messages

The sony ericsson w600i comes with SMS (short messaging service), EMS (enhanced messaging service) and MMS (multimedia messaging service). With the MMS feature, you can share multimedia content with your friends and family by emailing them content such as ringtones, screensavers, wallpapers, 3gp videos and more.

The writing of these SMS, EMS or MMS Messages is also made very easy thanks to predictive text input (T9). With this feature, the software predicts the words you are just about to type, and gives you a list of suggestions in drop down menu format. You just select the right word and the job is done!

Users of this phone can keep in touch with loved ones via Yahoo, MSN and AIM messenger softwares. Furthermore, the w600i also includes a new feature called Wireless Village. This feature allows you to chat with your contacts, and merges your phonebook as well. You can thus contact your friends via email, SMS, or chat all with the same software. A really neat convenience feature i must say!

Screen

The screen size of w600i is 176 by 220 pixels with a color range of 262k colors. Notice the 262k colors because most other cell phones come with a 65k color display. What does this mean? This means the screen refreshes at faster rates and creates a beautiful display screen. This coupled with TFT (Thin Film Transistor) that produces higher refresh rates means that the screen remains vibrant and vivid causing an awesome picture display. This being despite of the relatively small screen.

The TFT also makes games, videos or taking photos (via the digital camera) much more fun because of the vibrant and beautiful screen.

Audio

The built in Walkman feature of the w600i is just another reason why this phone is great. If you the press on the Walkman shortcut icon, the MP3 player will start up and play your MP3 songs. This will also show the names of the artist and title of songs along with other related information. To control playback options, minimize the MP3 window and you will see Volume, Bass, Equalizer and other sound options that you can mess around with. The Play and Pause keys can also be found on the left side of the phone. Thanks to the built in 256mb flash memory, you can be sure to store thousands of your favourite mp3 songs on the phone.

The phone also has a built in Disc2Phone software that allows you to transfer all your MP3 files from the PC directly to the phone. This can be done via the packaged USB cable. The Walkman supports many formats apart from MP3s. They include

- AAC
- AMR
- MIDI
- WAV
- IMY/EMY
- MP4
- 3GP (check the left sidebar for a section on cool 3gp videos).

Don't be limited to only your MP3s. This is because the w600i includes a built in FM Radio application that allows you to listen to your favourite radio station. Thanks to the RDS (radio data support), you can see exactly what song is being played on the radio station as well as station names and other information.
Note: Use the packaged earbud headphones to listen to the FM radio. This is because if you play all your music from the speakers, the battery level will die down. Thus if you plan to make calls right after, the battery power will probably give you problems.

Furthermore, thanks to RDS (radio data support), users of the phone can subscribe to additional news, music, and entertainment broadcasts through their currently playing radion station.
