1xEV-DO is a relatively new technology
which is part of the CDMA2000 digital wireless standard.
EV-DO stands for Evolution Data Optimized. EV-DO allows
cell phones to transfer data rates at speeds of 10 times
higher than its predecessor technologies example 1xRTT.
1xEV-DO technology is based on an old standard known as
"High Data Rate" (HDR), developed by Qualcomm.
Currently, there are 2 versions of 1xEV-DO
namely, "Release 0" and "Revision A."
Here's what both of these mean:
Release 0
- Original version of 1xEV-DO
and is widely used.
- Offers maximum claimed speeds of 2.4mpbs while actual
speeds range from 300-600kbps.
Revision A
- This version has all
the features that Release 0 does and additional video
calling and VoIP technologies.
