1xRTT (also known as 2.5G standard)
was developed to replace the IS-95 CDMA standard previously
used in cell phones. 1xRTT is better than its precedessor
because it allows enhanced network voice capacity. Today
the reason why cell phones can view 3gp videos or access
television channels is partly due to this. Furthermore,
the 1xRTT allows for faster data transfer rates.
There are two versions of 1xRTT namely:
- Release 0: offers
data transfer speeds at 60-80 kbps.
- Release A:offers
data transfer speeds at 288 kbps.
