AMPS stands for Advanced Mobile Phone
Service. AMPS operates on Analog wireless transmission
standards and on 800 / 850 MHz cellular frequency band.
AMPS is still widely in use, and replacement
technology has not been found yet. It is used widely for
analog roaming in most of today's modern phones.
Comparisons between AMPS and digital
modes show that AMPS uses up more battery power and emits
more radiation. Furthermore, digital modes have better
sound quality than AMPS.
