Analog roaming allows cell phones with
analog networks use those networks
efficiently in rural areas, where digital services are
not yet available. Analog networks have greater coverage
of signals than digital networks, and thus are used in
rural areas.
Many current 2G and 3G phones feature
the capability of roaming on older 1G analog networks.
When comparing analog roaming to digital roaming, we see
that analog is more expensive, has poor sound quality
and cannot facilitate the use of advanced features such
as caller ID.
