The Nokia Surge 6790 is available through AT&T.
The Finnish brand Nokia has always been known for quality, sturdy and all-around user friendly cell phones. Their phones don’t always have the most functionality, however, so consider the Nokia Surge 6790 to be the black sheep of the family.
Accelerometer
Like some of the best smartphones available, the Nokia Surge 6790 comes complete with an accelerometer that will allow you to use the phone in both landscape and portrait view. It’ll come down to user preference, but the landscape mode seems to be the best because of the widened screen. Even if you like switching back and forth, you’ll have no issue as the accelerometer picks up quickly on your movements.

The Nokia Surge from AT&T is one of the first smartphones from Nokia available in the US.

Slightly annoying design
The Nokia Surge 6790 doesn’t make it easy for you to dial numbers. You can’t call anyone that’s not in your phone book unless you have the slider open, which, as the title states, is slightly annoying but not a huge loss. Also, the number pad isn’t the standard number pad. The asterisk (*), pound (#), and zero button are lined up next to the three, six and nine button. Big deal? No, but again, slightly annoying.
Juice Caster keeps you connected
Are you a social networking fiend? Then the Nokia Surge 6790 might be perfect for you. An application called Juice Caster allows you to post videos, updates, and pictures to Flickr, Facebook, Twitter and MySpace. Stay in touch on all four social sites with ease and simplicity, all thanks to Juice Caster. You have some space in the internal memory, which is 120 MB, but you’re better off upgrading with a microSD card. The Surge accepts up to 8GB.

Video Calls (with AT&T service)
If your friend or work colleague has another phone that is compatible with AT&T’s Video Share service like the Nokia Surge 6790 is, you can make video calls to one another. The service costs $4.99 monthly, but it’s such a cool and futuristic concept that you almost have to try it, don’t you? It’s basically like Skype on the cell phone, and everyone loves Skype.
Battery Life
The Nokia Surge 6790 gets about four hours of battery life. It definitely ranks in the lower-tier of battery life, but this phone seems worth it. With all that you can do on the Surge it’d be silly just to pass it up because of its battery.
