Boost Your Cell Phone Signal
Everybody has experienced some frustration connecting with their cell phones. While there is nothing we can do about “dead zones” (areas where service is not provided), there are ways to increase the strength of your signal and achieve a clearer connection.
To boost you signal outdoors, there are a two good choices. In your car, you can use a direct connection amplifier system which uses an adapter to connect directly into your cell phone. You will experience a significant boost in your signal strength in remote locations. You have three options to mount the antenna, on glass (the back windshield), magnetic mount (which can be easily moved or transferred to another vehicle) or non-magnetic mount through the metal roof or trunk. The power cable has an adapter which plugs into the cars 12-volt cigarette lighter
The simplest and by far cheapest option is a passive antenna. These devices work like indoor TV antenna’s (rabbit ears) and significantly improve reception. Passive devices extend the range of your cell phone. By improving the signal quality you have fewer dropped calls and less static noise. You can purchase one for about $25.
More people are using cell phones indoors then ever before with the major advantages of free calls with other subscribers on the carrier’s network and no long distance charges. The number of people eliminating home landlines and using only a cell phone is also increasing.
With walls, ceilings and flooring impeding signals, indoor reception is traditionally weaker. Indoor antennas tend to be very expensive with the price increasing dramatically as you cover more area. They can be used in either homes or offices. To cover up to 3,000 square feet can cost from 4400 - $500. Larger office area up to 15,000 sq ft can run $900 and very large areas over 20,000 sq ft can cost over $3,000. These are very complicated systems and usually require professional installation.
Another option is a wired indoor antenna booster. Depending on antenna size, costs range from $40 – $100. The drawback of these wired systems is that the cell phone has a cable connected directly to the antenna, taking away some of the mobility of the cell phone.
A very simple way to boost the cell phone connection when you are in your home is to forward the calls to from your cell phone to your home phone. The expense will depend upon your service plan and the time of day
While most of us love the freedom the cell phone brings, we are frustrated by poor connections and static. Cell phone boosters can alleviate some of problem and make the experience much more enjoyable. |
