What Is The Difference Between Cellphone And Smartphone?

By Dayna MarascoDecember 2, 2021

Cellphones are devices used to make calls, send messages, and play games. Whereas, smartphones are made for much more than making calls, sending messages, and playing games like additional features such as GPS navigation, mobile web access, music players, video players, email support, etc.

Cellphones have a physical keyboard, while smartphones have a virtual touchscreen keyboard. You can use your finger to quickly swipe between apps or zoom into photos on the larger display of the smartphone with just one hand without adjusting your grip or switching hands.

Cellphones

Cellphones have been around for a long time. They are devices used to make calls, send messages, and play games. Some models also have cameras to take pictures or record videos, but it is not of very good quality. Cellphones can be found in the homes of over 90% of Americans because they once used them.

There are more cellphones than people in America. Many people still prefer cell phones over smartphones because they are simpler and easier to use, especially older people. Cellphones usually have buttons, but the new, improved cell phones also have a touch screen option as well.

Smartphones

A smartphone is a mobile phone with an advanced mobile operating system that combines features of a personal computer operating system with other features useful for mobile or handheld use.

Smartphones typically include powerful computing capabilities and software that allows users to download and run applications without purchasing and installing the application on their device. They may also have high-speed internet connectivity, allowing them to provide internet access in addition to voice telephone service.

The first commercially available smartphone was the Nokia 9000 Communicator in 1996, but this model's introduction was not successful. In 1998, IBM introduced its Simon Personal Communicator, which became the first PDA-capable smartphone when it received approval from Verizon Wireless in 2000.
