When Was The First Cellphone Made

By Francis SpierOctober 11, 2021

The history of mobile phones is as old as the invention of the first telephone. In Kentucky, a US Patent was issued for a wireless phone that could be carried on one's person, and it went into production shortly thereafter, making this device an ancestor to today's smartphones. Mobile telephony experienced something like its "modern" inception during World War II when engineers working at AT&T developed cells - tiny stations used by cellular networks now located beneath streets around America-Louisville Slugger Field among other locations."

The first mobile phones were not really phoned at all. They're two-way radios, and they allow people like taxi drivers to communicate with one another or the emergency services when necessary!

Instead of relying on base stations that are separate cells (with their signal being passed from cell to cell), these early networks involved a powerful central tower covering a much wider area than before; this made them more convenient for users as well as reduced costs due to less redundancy in coverage areas.

Motorola, on 3 April 1973, mass-produced the first handheld mobile phone. These early models are often referred to as 0G phones or Zero Generation Mobile Phones. Most phones today rely on 3G/4G technology for their communication needs, but there was a time when these "zero fingers" changed how we communicate forever with just one call!

What Was The First Cell Phone?

The first cell phone was ever made in 1973 and featured a handset that weighed 4.4 pounds, but the idea of mobile phones was around long before then!

Eric Tigerstedt, an inventor from Finland who patented a device in 1917 promising to be "the world's smallest telephone with microphone," was finally able to achieve his dream 50 years later.

Despite various companies creating the first mobile phones in the 1970s, it wasn't until 1979 that a cellular network (1G) was developed and launched. Denmark, Norway, Finland & Sweden quickly followed with their own networks mid-1980s; numerous other countries had begun creating cell phone systems within just ten years time span!

The timeline makes sense, considering that commercial cell devices weren't available until 1983. Motorola released the 8000X in September with a retail price tag of nearly $4k.
